Re: Tarlton Bull, DeMorse's 29th Cav, Co E

DeMorse was the commander of the 29th TX Cav but must have been absent, leaving Welch, his second in command, leading the regiment.

It is quite a ways from Horse Creek to Cabin Creek. The Union train camped there waiting for reinforcements before proceeding to Cabin Creek. The Confederates did not advance north of Cabin Creek. The Confederates did not pursue north of Cabin Creek after the battle -- they immediately headed south with their captured wagon train, knowing Union reinforcements were on the way.

If he literally was at the location of his father's grave on Horse Creek, it must have been much earlier than the 2nd Battle of Cabin Creek. There was no significant battle fought on Horse Creek but there were many undocumented encounters between Union and Confederate troops.
