Help with establishing some facts

Hi, My 4th great grandfather was Samuel C. Patton. According to his service record, he enlisted in Cherokee Nation on 12 Jul 1861 in the 1st Mounted Cherokee Volunteers/Watie's Regiment. He only has one other service record on file at Fold3.com, and that is his being a member of the 2nd Cherokee Mounted Volunteers. That record says he was re-enlisted in Fort Smith, AR on 12 Jan 1863 by Col. Stand Watie himself. He was in Company H when he was in the 1st; he was in Company E when he was in the 2nd. What's confusing is, according to this "Guide to Cherokee Units", what would have been Company E in Watie's regiment transferred to Bryan's Battalion. Company E was apparently under Captain D.C. Patton's command (as far as I can tell, my Patton and this Patton are unrelated, but could have been cousins). But Gjertveit states " Acridge’s, Alberty’s, Brewer’s, and Patton’s are all on record as having enlisted 12 July 1862 at Spavinaw Creek, Tahlequah District, Cherokee Nation." He's referring to the companies that were under Watie that transferred to Bryan's command. It appears that would include Samuel Patton, but his re-enlistment was 12 Jan 1863 in Arkansas, while their's was 12 Jul 1862 in Cherokee Nation. Can anyone shed some light on this information? I know the amount of information on the Cherokee Regiments is relatively limited, but I'd like to know for sure if my Patton remained under Watie's command, as he was obviously signed up by Watie himself, or if he was sent to Bryan's Battalion, where his service records don't seem to match up with those of other's in the battalion. I'd really like to have a firm grasp of what all Patton was involved in during the war, how long he was under Watie, etc. If anyone can provide some information on this for me, I would be grealty appreciative. Thank you.
