Thanks Ken, I copied the article. In a report found in OR Vol. XIII, from Buster around 25 September 62, he mentions sending a patrol towards 'Joe Vann's' near the Grand Saline. My thought was why do that and for what purpose if the Vanns were confederates. During this period Buster was charged with policing the area but was still organizing his command though he will soon have to march towards Newtonia.
