RE: CAPTAIN REASON JONES, 1ST REGIMENT CHOCTAW AND CHICKASAW MOUNTED RIFLES

Hello, I am doing research on my GGG-Grandfather, Reason Jones. Reason was a Captain Co E, 1st Regiment Choctaw and Chickasaw Mounted Rifles. I have his muster card. I also have partial records from the "Indices of Choctaw and Chickasaw Confederate Soldiers", "Population Warriors Blue County Choctaw Nation" and 1st Regiment Choctaw Mounted Rifles Muster Roll. I have also collected several muster cards of those I think are related to Reason Jones.

I have had quite a bit of help getting this far with Reason's Civil War service and have read quite a few records and battle reports. However, I have not been able to determine what happened to Reason Jones. I do not know if he died in a battle or died some other way. Until recently I had not actually seen anything listing his name. Of all the records I have seen online for his Regiment, I have only seen on his muster card and the Indices records where he is named a Captain of Co. E. He is listed in the Population/Warriors record also. I have never seen his name on anyone's site who has put together records of who the Captains were of Co. E. His name is usually spelled "Reson" or "Reeson" when I have found it.

For the most part it looks like he joined in 1861, signed a petition in June 1862 and there is a noted commutation for clothing Aug 1862. After that, nothing. I believe he died sometime in late 1862, because his estate inventory is filed by 17 Mar 1863 stating that he is deceased. I have read battle reports, casualty reports and have even found a Reason Jones who is buried in a military cemetery in Kentucky. I do not think this is my Reason Jones. One thing I also noticed on the Indices report, there are several men absent on or around May-June of 1863. I only have part of it, but this is also noticeable on some of the muster cards I have for men who served with Reason Jones. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.
