The Union Army, Vol IV, p. 317

1st KY Inf [US] organized at Camp Clay, Pendleton, OH, June 1861 under Col James V. Guthrie, mustered in to US service 06/04/1861 for 3 years service, composed almost entirely of Ohio men. Sent to Dept of West VA. Col Guthrie resigned 12/21/1861; Col David A. Enyart took command until they mustered out.
Jan 1862, ordered to Dept of the Cumberland; advance on Nashville, TN. Co 'E' detatched as arty in Jan 1862, designated 1st KY Indept [Simmonds] Battery & 23rd Indpt Battery, OH Lt Arty. Reg mustered out at Covington, KY 06/18/1864.
BATTLES: Boone C.H., Chapmansville, Gauley Bridge, Red House, WVA; Shiloh, TN; Corinth, MS; Stone's River, TN; Graysville & Chickamauga, GA.
