In Response To: Re: 2nd KY Mtd. Rifles ()

The question of whether my Grandmother's Uncle George W. Seaman of Lewis County rode with Morgan is the reason for my own study of the war in Kentucky. The only way I could eliminate him from that event is by getting his records from Washington, and he happened to have put in a requistion in Abingdon which corresponded with dates of Morgan's captivity.

According to Guerrant's Diary via Bluegrass Confederate, page 425, by Davis and Swentnor: the brigade under JH Morgan consisted of the 1st and 2nd Ky Battns, 6th and 7th Confed. Batt'ns, 4th and 10th KY Cav and 10th Ky M(ounted) R(ifles) as of Friday May 6th, 1864.

Guerrant's opinion of Morgan seems to have dropped, according to the preface of Chapter 22 describing the Battles of Mt. Sterling and Cynthiana, page 462, ibid.

Good luck with your study.
