In Response To: A.C.S. rank ()

Tennesseans in the Civil War record Frank A. Moses as "A. C. Sgt., Field & Staff, 63rd Tennessee Infantry."

He is not found in the CW Research Data Base in the roster of the 63rd. However, a Frank A. Moses is found in Co. D, CS Commissary Department.

In Lindsley's Annals, he is found in the sketch of the 63rd Tennessee at the Battle of Drewry's Bluff, May 16, 1864, thusly:

"In this battle . . . Frank A. Moses, the gallant standard-bearer of the Sixty-third, while bearing the flag to victory, was severely wounded in three places, whereupon James A. Lindamood, of Co. E, seized the flag, and bearing it aloft called loudly for the men to go forward."

I therefore believe he was the regimental "Color Sergeant." I do not know what the prefix "A" stands for.
