Mr. Pitts Compliments Kind Sir,
Although my reply to you has little to do with Perryville, I find exception to your assertion that Parkers Cross Roads was an Confederate Victory.
Major Gen. Forrest fought an absolutely incredible fight but I find it hard to believe a confederate victory could be declared.
He did have thru the first part of the fight Dunhams troops cornered thru incredible artillery tactics into a small area south of the cross roads near Red Mound and reports were that several white flags were seen. But the Scouts he had sent north with conflicting orders, (report on Vs Engage) and even down the wrong roads, allowed Union troops to surprise him from behind, even take some of his cannon - which put a knot in his shorts no doubt - and put him on the defensive.
One of the very few times he was ever on the defensive and a very rare time he was ever "Surprised". Yes, he was able to ESCAPE down thru lexington and recross the river at Clifton but hardly a Confederate Victory. Even though the Yanks claimed to have "spread his forces to the wind " and needed no more than a few cavalry to gather them up. He did make it back and with more than he had left with (58 wagons and a quantity of hogs and cattle) on the raid but to say it was a Secesh victory may be a stretch.
Once again I apologize for getting off the course of Perryville but being a Forrest person for quite a while and happen to follow this particular raid from Dresdon down to Clifton personally (some of the best barbecue is to be had in this area) , even finding the place of the "Double Bridges" I believe he crossed on his way "Out of Country" near Hico Station and Big Buck. I had to say something.
I Am,

Your Humble Servant,

Sgt. Gauss
