Re: Kentucky POWs
In Response To: Re: Kentucky POWs ()

I am fully aware that of the Federal Army alone, over 126,000 different men were held at different places. It never crossed my mind that it would have been any other way. I had only hoped that, as the Federal Government had compiled the number of US troops who had died in Confederate POW camps by state (as appears in Dyer's), perhaps the Army or someone else might have commisioned another study/report which listed, in the same way, the aggregate number of POW's held from each state. Further, I'd have thought that it goes without saying that a person without access to the records of each camp would be making a futile attempt in trying to arrive at the correct figures from each state in doing the research alone. This is why I was asking if anyone knew of another compilation, such as Dyer's, that might have been published online at some point. I offer my sincerest apologies to everyone for asking so stupid a question. I suppose that attempting to research a topic so difficult is pointless, so there is no reason to try, or even to ask a simple question about possible sources for such information. But I thank you for your insight, and for educating me on just how hopeless a task this would be.
