The Kentucky in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Kentucky (CSA) Burial, Augusta, Ga

I wrote out the names down the names and sometimes have trouble reading my own writing. But the only Edwards I immediately saw was "R. Edwards, Georgia." IThere are five or six unknowns, and I guess 30-40 names which listy no State.

Magnolia is a large cemetery -- 40 acres or so -- and is is quite possible that others may have been buried in family plots, either because they had relatives in the city, ori because they were put in private quarters. I suggfest that you put a query on the Goergia board and see if you get a respoionse.

The Confederates established hospitals all along the railroads radiating out of Atlanta, and there are Confederate sections in almost all the larger towns along the railraod from Augusta to Atlatna, and south from Atlanta to Macon, and towards Alabama as far as La Grange. On the Augusta-Atlanta line alone, there is a small section in the Methodist (City) Cemetery at Thomson; in Wisteria at Union Point, in the City Cemetery at Greensboro (all or almost all unknowns), a substantial-sized one at Madison (another very well-kept cemetery), and a large one at Covington (but almost all unknown). Finally, there is a small one in the Old City Cemetery in Conyers.

Sorry I can't be of more help. If you wish, I can post the names of those at Augusta who are listed without giving a State. Four or five or six years ago I posted a partial lisiting of Kentuckians buried in Georgia; if you do a search back, that may give you some more names.
