My husband, Grady Puryear, shared this email with me. My Dad was Irving Aubrey Patton. His grandfather, Isaac Alexander Patton, fought in the Banks Red River Campaign and at the Battle of Mansfield. Isaac was born near Nashville, TN, at Knob Hill, Mar. 18, l837. Isaac's father, Dr. John Works Patton, was born in Tennessee, Feb. 16, 1808. John Works Patton's father, Maj. Isaac Patton, was born in the State of South Carolina, Feb. 14, l777. I found a copy of an autobiography in the DAR Library in Washington, the same copy that was passed to me in family records. In this autobiography of Maj. Isaac Patton, he states that his "father was a true American and Whig, and fought, bled and died defending his country". He left a widow and six boy children. The sad thing is that he said "my father" but did not state his first name. My Dad always believed that their names were the same. My Dad's cousin has family records that state he fought in the Revolution under General Washington. I have requested records from the War Department, but they do not have a record. If you have any information or suggestions, I would truly appreciate your sharing them with me. Joanie Patton Puryear
