Re: Personal Accounts of 105th Ohio Infantry

Mr. Armstrong:

I have possed your question to Kurt Holman, Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site, Park Manager. As a brief synopsis: BG Wm. Terrill apparently formed his informal company of Guards and Scouts from individuals he selected during the withdrawl of Union troops from Lexington to Louisville. The company was led by Captain Louis Christman. Once in Louisville the unit was rearmed and equiped with the best mounts available. They served with Terrill, in scouting, and as personal guards until his death on Oct. 8th. During the Battle of Perryville they were sent to the extreme Union Left (as was Terrill's entire Brigade) where they went forward to scout and encountered Confederate Cavalry (presumably Wharton's Brigade) and were rudely pushed back to the brigade position. Hope this will help you, for more you may e-mail me at charles050101@yahoo.com .

BTW, I enjoyed "God Alone Knows Which Was Right", a good read.
