This company, the Cumberland Artillery, organized on Oct. 7, 1861, Hopkinsville KY, 101 officers and men. Sixty-six escaped from Fort Donelson, thirty-five were captured. Following release from prison in September 1862, Vickbsurg MS, there remained one captain, two lieutenants and eighteen enlisted men, most of the rest having joined other commands. These were assigned to duty with Durrive's Co. "C", 1st Mississippi Artillery Regiment. These served at Fort Pemberton until the evacuation of that place, afterwards manning a Parrott battery in the defenses of Jackson MS. At this point the battery was assigned to Co. "B", 22nd Louisiana Regiment. This regiment was later reassigned to the defenses of Mobile AL. In Oct. 1864 enough conscripts and recruits had been assigned to reconsitute the battery under Capt. William Henry Hedden. I was surrendered with the army under General Taylor
