Adjutant General War Department communique to Adj. General, State of Missiouri, May 1, 1915

"The Confederate records show that George R. Diamond, Captain, Company C, 5th Kentucky Mounted Infantry, C. S. A. , enlisted October 26, 1861, at Prestonsburg, Ky., and that he was mustered out of service with his company October 20, 1862, at Hazle Green, Ky.

"The Confederate records further show that George R. Diamond commanded a company that bore his name and formed a part of May's Battalion Kentucky Mounted Rifles, which became Company D, 10th (Diamond's) Kentucky Cavalry, C. S. A. . . . .

"The Union prisoner of war records show that, as Lieutenant Colonel of the 10th Kentucky Cavalry, C. S. A., he was captured at Athens, Ga. . . . . "

* This company subsequently became Company I, 10th Regiment (Diamond's) Kentucky Cavalry

Note: No further company muster rolls survived to be recorded in these Compiled Service Records

William Vandikes, Private, Company G, May's Regiment, Kentucky and Virginia Mounted Rifles**, enlisted March 28, 1863 at Grundy, Buchanan County, Virginia by Capt. A. F. Gibson for 3 years, last shown present July 30, 1863, no further records

** This company subsequently became Company G, 10th Regiment (Diamond's) Kentucky Cavalry

Note: A subsequent muster roll for Company G exists, and that for the period March 28, 1863 to Feb. 29, 1864 where they were stationed at Carters Station, East Tennessee. It thus appears that the three Vandikes, William, Walter, and David had been dropped from the rolls sometime after July, 1863
