Sir,

While researching another matter, I came across a couple names that may interest you. Two soldiers of Sypert's 13th Kentucky Cavalry(not to be confused with the larger, more notable KY Cav unit under Col.Caudill with the same designation), a Lt.Charleton G.Duke and his brother John W.Duke (rank unk) were captured near Eddyville,KY on 09 OCT 1864, and held temporarily at the Louisville Military Prison. For whatever reason, Burbridge ordered that both men were to be shot. Their mother hearing of this, rushed to Lousiville and bribed Burbridge(perfectly illustrating the moral rectitude of the general and others like him), which eraned Lt.Duke a reprieve. Though he remained to rot in the Louisville Prison(Charleton), I have conflicting info that the mother did not have enough $ to earn a reprieve for both sons, and John may have been among those executed. I'm fairly sure that there are others in the KY Confederate POW database I'm gathering that were also condemned to death by Burbridge, so I'll look for more and get back to you when I can. I hope this helps at least a little. Anything I can do, let me know.
