I believe we were talking about KY's situation as a military district/area of operations, being "lost" or "regained", rather than any reference to the state's political ownership or even the sentiments of the majority of it's people, at the time. We were speaking of the military situation from the time Gen.Johnston's line (from Cumberland Gap to Columbus on the Mississippi)was broken in early 1862 following the Mill Springs fiasco, Bragg and Smith's invasion in AUG 1862, etc., and what may or may not have been possible, from a military standpoint, had it not been for the operational blunders and command failures of Gen.Bragg and a few others. At least I think we were. From the "tone" of the question it seems that you think us to be Lost Cause Romanticists, which speaking for myself at least, I am not. I had several ancestors who served in the Federal Army, with several others who fought in the Confederate Army (all from KY), of which I am equally proud. I was asking for opinions regarding the military possibilities/probabilities that obtained in the state of Kentucky during the first 18 months or so of the conflict. Have you any opinions or views on that subject, i.e.the military situation in the state? If so, I would be interested in hearing them, as I am to hear anyone's, with whom I agree or not. I am without any interest or esteem, let alone pride, at all for the politics and, more specifically, the politicians, of either side during that War, as I believe the true motivations and aims of that class on both sides were questionable, to say the least, with both, in my barely-educated and unpopular opinion, worthy of scorn and contempt, and certainly not worthy of the blood that was shed and the men and women who suffered horrendously in this country, including Kentucky, as a direct result of their opportunism(masquerading, to this very day, as morality), thoughtless rhetoric, and manifold mistakes. It sounds as if you do know our history and have formed some strong opinions on this issue as well, and I would very much like to hear them. My apologies for a lack of clarity on what I was asking. If I have mistaken, or offended (too easily done these days), it has not been my intent. Thank you for your reply.
*I too, am originally from Kentucky, btw.
