I find neither of these two men in any other unit than the 5th Kentucky.

David Fields, Private, (1st) Company F, 5th Regiment Kentucky Infantry (Mounted), enlisted April 11, 1862 at Camp Moccasin by John S. Williams for 12 months, last shown present on the May & June, 1862 muster roll, his file contains correspondence between the Adjutant General, War Department with the Confederate Pension Department, Kentucky, dated February 15, 1915, to wit:

"The records show that Davis _ (name not found as Davis S.) Fields, private, 1st Company F (Capt. Benj. E. Caudill), 5th Kentucky Mounted Infantry, C.S.A., enlisted April 11, 1862, at Camp Moccasin. Muster roll of company for May and June, 1862, last on file, shows him present.

"This company was a nucleus for a battalion which subsequently became the 13th Kentucky Cavalry, C.S.A. (Col. Benj. E. Caudill), which was also known as the 10th Kentucky Infantry, C.S.A. S. R. Brashear and Hiram H. Stamper were captains of Companies H and A, respectively of the 13th Kentucky Cavalry, C.S.A. The name Davis or Davis S. Fields has not been found on the rolls, on file in this office, of any company of the regiment last mentioned, nor has anything further been found of record bearing on the subject of inquiry."

* This company subsequently became (1st) Company F, 5th Regiment Kentucky Infantry (Mounted)

Capt. Caudill was permitted to take his Co. F as a nucleas for a battalion which he had authority from Gen. Marshall to raise. (Roster 'A')
Capt. Caudill subsequently raised ?? 13th Ky. Cav. (10 11 Ky. Mtd. Inf.)

13th Kentucky Cavalry. The regiment was known at various times as Caudill's Regiment Kentucky Infantry, 10th Regiment Kentucky Infantry, 10th Regiment Kentucky Mounted Riflemen, and 11th Regiment Kentucky Mounted Infantry. The 11th Regiment Kentucky Mounted Infantry became the 13th Regiment Kentucky Cavalry by S. O. No. 44, A. & I. G. O. dated February 23, 1865
