Hello,

While working on Fold3.com tonight I came across another set of CSR cards for the 2nd Kentucky Cavalry (CS). There's already a set of cards for Duke's 2nd KY Cavalry and Woodward's 2nd (actually the 15th) KY Cavalry on that site.

In going through these cards virtually all of them are POW cards with capture information including dates and locations. Some of the men were definitely from Duke's 2nd KY Cav as they have July 1863 Ohio capture locations. Others have Cynthiana, KY in 1864 which makes them part of the 2nd KY Special Cavalry Battalion formed by Morgan after his escape from Ohio. Still others have East TN and even lower VA capture locations.

The soldier I was interested in was Joshua Brown, who served in one of these 2nd KY Cavalry units and became a Coleman Scout and was taken in Giles County, TN in November 1863 along with Sam Davis. Brown was from Clarksville, TN.

What I need help with from someone here who is an expert on the CSR records of KY Confederate cavalry units is to explain if he thinks what I am thinking - that this file is actually a dumping ground for those soldiers with affiliations with ALL of the 2nd KY Cavalry units. Based on what I have been seeing so far that seems to be the case.

What I am trying to find out- and this will be hard as none of the cards I have seen so far have any enlistment dates or locations on them - is when Joshua Brown enlisted, where and in which 2nd KY Cavalry?
