Re: LA 3rd Infantry, Company H
In Response To: LA 3rd Infantry, Company H ()

Hello,
I'm new so a bit overwhelmed in reading various excerpts from sources on the history of the 3rd LA Infantry. On one web site showing the Company names, there are two Company H's....one called the Monticello Rifles, and another called Company H (22nd reg) which was a result of reforming, or those east of the Mississippi river or whatever. The only record I have of my Benjamin F. Allein from NARA is just the index card which says "Co.H,3 Louisiana Infantry" with no date other than "surrendered at New Orleans by Gen. E.K. Smith...paroled at Shreveport LA 1865." Can somebody help me interpret the history of the two H Companies so I can determine which one my ancestor was in? Thanks! I hope I didn't word my post too poorly.
