Paul's Rangers

I'm curious about David C. Paul, a Sheriff of Rapides Parish during the 1880's. Was he indeed a Captain during the WBTS and was there a unit called "Paul's Rangers"? I may be overlooking them but I can't find them in Mr. Bergeron's guide.

The only possible match I've found in Booth's records is...

Paul, D. C.,
1st Sergt. 2nd Lt. Co. G, 2nd La. Cav.
En. Jan. 2, 1862, Alexandria, La.
Roll Jan. and Feb., 1863, Recapitulation, 2nd Jr. Lt., Present.
Roll July and Aug., 1863, Absent, on sick furlough.
Federal Rolls of Prisoners of War, Captured Natchitoches, La., March 21, 1864.
Recd. New Orleans, March 26, 1864.
Paroled at New Orleans, La., _, 1864.
Exchanged Red River Landing, July 22, 1864...

Booth's record stops there.
