Re: Wingfield's 3rd La. Cav. - additional info
In Response To: Wingfield's 3rd La. Cav. ()

From Art Bergeron's book "Guide to Louisiana Confederate Military Units":

"As part of Col. John S. Scott's cavalry brigade, the regiment followed an enemy raiding force from Baton Rouge to Pascagoula, Miss. in December [1864]. The regiment accompanied the brigade to northern Miss. late that month. Most of the regiment remained there until the end of the war, but detachments came back into eastern Louisiana to collect absentees and deserters and to oppose small enemy raids."

This could explain the confusion over where the regiment was during this time. Art, do you know where you found the info that most of the regiment remained in northern Mississippi?
