There is another Ellis letter that talks about deserters from Scott's and Wingfield's regiments.

I seriously doubt that anyone from Harrison's 3rd Cav was paroled at Gainesville, so I agree with the conclusion that those parolees all belonged to Wingfield's regiment. It has been my experience that the War Department clerks made a number of mistakes of this kind because they did not know the histories of the two units.
