Re: Captain Brice's Co. C 31st Regiment La. Infant

With all due respect, the information on the site you sent,

http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/regiments.htm

is incorrect. Numerous evidence proves that the 31st Regiment was organized in early May 1862 at Monroe, in northeastern Louisiana, and not at Vicksburg. The regiment operated ineffectively in northeastern Louisiana between May and November 1862. Besides Chickasaw Bluffs, they saw action at the Battle of Port Gibson in May 1863, as well as throughout the Siege of Vicksburg.

After the official exchange of the Vicksburg parolees on 21 July 1864, the regiment was stationed at Pineville until February 1865, when they moved to Bayou Cotile. They did NOT see any action during this period. They merely performed guard duty at the forts guarding the Red River approach from the south.

They disbanded in mid-May 1865, on the road from Natchitoches to Mansfield.
