Re: Captain Brice's Co. C 31st Regiment La. Infant

The 31st LA Inf was one of the Louisiana regiments that was at Vicksburg that is included in our book "The Defense of Vicksburg: A Louisiana Chronicle" The book good information on them through the end of the war.

At the end of the war company clerks often took the company rolls to a US Army office close to where they happened to be and the Army would issue paroles for the names on the list. Often the soilders paroled were nowhere around. The Louisiana soldiers that were paroled at Vicksburg and were west of the Miss. River were not exchanged until Aug of 1864.

After you look at the book you can let me know if I can provide any additional information to you.

You will enjoy the letters from the soldier who was in the 31st that are included in the book.
