Ok, I'm totally confused...my gg-grandfather "enlisted in 1861 in Calvary but was soon discharged due to his illness. He came home and reinlisted that same year at Delhi, Richland Parish, La. with Captain Brice's Co. C 31st Regiment, Infantry, La. Vols." This is from a letter hand written by him to my grandmother in 1916. It goes on to say, "I received my honorable discharge from the Confederate States Army on the 19th day of May 1865. I was soon afterwards paroled by USA authority in Marshall, Texas. About two months later our command was disbanded."

Internet records show him as being captured at Vicksburg and also on the parole list at Vicksburg. (His wife was a member of the Vick family)

The links attached to this site show him as a Private going in and a Private coming out. I have 2 original letters from the US War Dept. dated 1930 and 1935. One shows him as a 1st Sergeant and the other as a Sergeant. (Is there a difference?) A book written in 1914 shows him as a Major.

The Louisiana Sec. of State office shows him on certified copies to be in Co.G (not C) but all supporting documents show Co. C. They also show him as discharged at Grantico, La. (Not Vicksburg or Marshall, Tx.) Does anyone know if there was a Co.G 31st Infantry Regiment, La. Vols?

Another internet site shows him at a reunion for the Franklin Parish, La. Confederate soldiers. Other than that, I am unable to find him anywhere on any muster rolls.

Does anyone have any idea of what is right and what is wrong?
