Squire's La. Battn. Arty.

Squires' Louisiana Battalion, Artillery

Can anyone identify this artillery unit for me? Did it have a numerical designation? Was this Major Charles W. Squires, Sr's. battalion? Was it a renamed Washington Artillery Battalion, of which he was previously a company captain?

At least some men of Squires' La. Battn. Arty. were paroled at Shreveport, La. on June 7, 1865. As far as I have found, there is no record of Major Charles W. Squires, Sr. being paroled.

The artillery soldier that I am investigating is Patrick Gaughran, Co. G of the 1st La. Hvy. Arty. I suspect that the Pat Keegan who was paroled as a member of Squire's La. Battn. Arty. is the same person.

He may also be the same person as the Patrick Gaughran/Keegan [spelled both ways in the records] of Co. B and D of 1st (Strawbridge's) La. Inf. This man is shown as on "detached service at Lt. Mader's Battery".

"Lt. Mader" appears to be 2nd Lt. George W. Mader, Co. B, 1st (Strawbridge's) La. and this, in turn, appears to be the same person as Capt. G. W. Mader of Le Gardeur Jr.'s Company La. Light Artillery (aka Orleans Guard Battery of Orleans Guard La. Independent Artillery Battalion), in charge of Mortar Battery. ["Le Gardeur Jr." was Capt. Gustave Le Gardeur, Jr. of Assumption Parish]

Any help in sorting any of this out would be greatly appreciated.
