Susan, I would be interested in learning your source for Captain Newman's death at Vicksburg and anything about the circumstances of his death. I am collecting information of this sort for a possible revised edition of my book "Guide to Louisiana Confederate Military Units, 1861-1865." This is the first time I have heard that he was killed.
