Re: mystery soldiers.....Camp Magruder, Minden, La

Thanks again. You're absolutely right. I made an inquery to the National Archives and they just wrote back. They said that at the turn of the century, all of the information on the records pertaining to muster rolls, hospital lists, etc were carded seperately for each soldier and compiled into his individual military record.

Problem with that though....my grandfather's list of effects were received on Nov 21, 1864 and it only says that his name was taken either from a regimental or officers list of soldiers who were either killed, wounded or died from illness or taken from a hospital list that was sent to the Adjutant General's office. So....in that regard....it still doesn't say exactly where this info was obtained, whether from a roster or hospital list.
I feel that if I had the original record, then I would know if he was killed outright, was wounded and died, or died from disease....or at least maybe I would be able to tell according to where the original record came from. So, I'll keep digging....write back to the National Archives and try to rent the microfilm or something through the local Morman Family History Center. I'll be most happy to share any info I obtain with anyone.
Thanks again! Any help is greatly appreciated.
