I would concur with Hugh. My understanding of immigation to the US (LEGAL) is that the great majority of those coming to the US were from Western Europe (France, Germany, Italy, Scandavaian Countries)in the pre-war years and not Easterm European Countries. The Eastern European wave was in and after the 1880's.
