While other records exist under the name 'Quintero' in Texas and a similar name in Louisiana, there's nothing for a Jose or Augustin Quintero. Possibly he joined a Texas company but left before entering Confederate service. This happened much more often than most can imagine.
Many companies organized under state law but disbanded because they were unable to meet the minimum number required to enter Confederate service. It's possible that early company rolls exist in the Texas State Archives.
