Re: 14th Louisiana Cavalry Regiment

Hi Wilma

How are you, John and the girls getting on?

Have read your message with interest and have decide to tell you what I have found out about the Du Frocq family. When mum (Norma) and I visited Guernsey in 2001 we visited the local library and was able to find out considerable information about them. This is what I know:

Peter Du Frocq and wife Mary nee Gaby and to Australia during the gold rush from England. Peter appears to have come first, followed by Mary and their two sons William (born 20/4/1849 at Colern, Wiltshire, England) and Thomas, (born 30/5/1852 at Liverpool, England) in 1854 - I have both birth certificates. Peter was born on Guernsey. The couple married at Colerne, Wiltshire, England. They settled in the Ballarat area.

Thomas Du Frocq and wife Elizabeth came to Australia from Guernsey a short time later. Thomas was a Draper in East Melbourne. He died near Bendigo in 1892.

However, I don't know anything about the 14th Louisiana Cavalry Regiment.

Wilma, I don't know how old your web message is and you may have already found out the information I have supplied.

I would love to hear from you regarding your research.

Gwen Halpin
