CSA Brig-Gen. H.E. McCulloch was the commander of the 5,000 soldiers who patrolled in July 1864 the North and West Frontier (North Texas and Southern Indian Terriory). On February 19, 1865, Col. James Bourland was promoted to be the commander of the following Confederate and Texas State Troops military units patrolling the North and West Frontier.
