Good find, I suspect this is the same fellow. Being a British emigrant, he had no strong allegiance to the South. Many of his kin, crossed over.

I did find him in the American CW Research Database, unfortunately, Footnote has not compiled Louisiana Federal Troops yet. However, his Federal
Compiled Service Records should prove his true identity.
