Has anyone ever come across any source, credible or otherwise, that suggested that when Alexandria was burnt in May of 1864, the fires were set by Confederate soldiers/militia/sympathizers in order to blame the Yankees? I am interested in any source - pro-North, pro-South, no sympathies; during the war, after the war, recent - anything at all. Preferably an original source, but I'd be interested even if it's "I heard it from a friend of a friend of my second cousin . . . "
