The Garnett Rangers aka Borge's Company were organized in 1861 as a militia cavalry unit. On 3 December the company voted to reorganize as a infantry unit and were retitled "Long Rifles"" and eventually served in the Regiment of Cazadores d'Espanola, which was later down-graded to a battalion. James Borge who had been Captain of the Garnett Rangers seems to have served as a 2Lt. in the Long Rifles. Hope this helps.
