I think the reason the Long Rifles were in the Regiment/Battalion of Cazadore d'Espanola is that in December 1861 companies of volunteer militia were ordered by State authorities to join battalions or regiments or face being disbanded. The joined the Spanish formation on 24 December, a day or two before the deadline. Like many others the Long rifles Probably scrambled to find a unit to join. The Long Rifles were active in State service (and then Confederate service) with the Battalion of Cazadore d'Espanola.
