James Lindsey Sims, 35 year old Farmer, born in Shelby County, Ala., 2nd Sergeant, Company F, 28th (Gray's) Louisiana Infantry (Jackson Volunteers), enlisted May 5, 1862 at Vernon, La. for 3 years or the war, recorded on the July/Aug., 1863 muster as absent without leave, rank Private, admitted CSA Gen. Hosp., Shreveport, La. April 18, 1864, Diarrhoea, paroled at Natchitoches, La. June 13, 1865, resident of Jackson Parish, La.

I believe they may have manned a gun here:

1/3/63 Portion of the 28th (companies F and G) detached at Fort burton at Butte la Rose on the Atchafalaya ( along with the Cresant rgimant), repulsed gunboat "Diana."
