As I understand it, SGT James Lindsey Sims had to flee Black Federal Troops in Louisiana even after being Paroled. He went to Texas. What is strange at least to me is that even after being on the wrong side, the Federal Government honored his Land Grant claim for being in the 1848 Mexican War. He took the land in East Texas.

SGT James Lindsey Sims died in 1900 in Angelina County, Texas. He is buried in the Sims Cemetery on HWY 103 East of Lufkin, Texas. I obtained a Military Tombstone and put it on his grave with a Son's of Confederate Veterans ceremony. I have a photograph of him and his wife taken most likely in Texas before he died.
