Thank you for the replies. I now believe the Camp Douglas document actually shows Ten Parish in reference to Tensas Parish, not Tew as I initially thought. I've also found a reference to a skirmish around Waterproof, LA January 29, 1864 http://www.shreveporttimes.com/article/99999999/NEWS10/110113012/Almost-700-battles-skirmishes-reported-state . I'm going to try to find more information on this skirmish but so far not much luck. I'm curious if 1) he was involved in the skirmish or 2) he just happened to be moving through the area just after the skirmish, either as a gun smuggler or as a soldier headed home to TX on furlough.
