Ken and Jim,
If memory serves me correctly, in the Nicholls papers at Nicholls State University there is a scrap of the Appomattox flag given to Eliza Maurin Nicholls, wife of Capt Lawrence Drake Nicholls, who had been killed at Gaines Mill. I had assumed that the men had torn the flag up and probably kept the pieces themselves although I cannot document that other than the piece given to Mrs. Nicholls. If you have any evidence otherwise I would love to know it as well. Thanks.
