re: Fourth Louisians Infantry, and Henry (Heinrich) Wirz.
Numerous publications state H. Wirz (the only man execuated for crimes of war at Andersonville)enlisted in the 4th Louisiana Infantry on June 16, 1861. i.e. "History of Andersonville Prison" by Futch, on page 17.
There are, however, many conflicting stories about Wirz.
He is said to have been wounded in combat while a sergeant with the 4th Louisiana Infantry. Some say at the battle of Seven Pines; some say other battles.
Does anyone have reputable information pertaining to the 4th Louisiana Infantry, and its relation to Captain Wirz (of Andersonville)? Thank you.
