Re: Towns destroyed during the War

I was interested in your response to Steve Mayeux's inquiry regarding towns destroyed during the war. Trinity and Jonesville are actually two separate sites, separated by Little River (one of the three rivers that come together here to form the Black River). Trinity is just north of Jonesville as you head towards Harrisonburg, LA, the seat of Catahoula Parish. There are still a couple of houses in Trinity which survived the shelling, though there are cannon balls lodged in the walls. Jonesville (at that time known as Troy or Troyville) was laid out after the war. An interesting aside is that one of the landowners during the war of the site where Jonesville is now located was John Randolph of Nottoway plantation fame.
