Jim, thanks so much for your kind words. "Lee's Tigers" actually was my doctoral dissertation at Texas A&M. When I began the project I expected to find the Tigers were just misunderstood and that all the stories of their wild behavior were simply myth and legend. Instead, I discovered they were, at times, even wilder than we ever imagined. It's amazing how many soldiers, both blue and gray, mentioned them in their letters and diaries. In the 20 years since writing it I have come across a lot more material (thanks in large part to some of the regulars on this site). For example, one soldier recalled the division confiscated a cache of whiskey and the officers dumped it in the ditch to keep the men from drinking it. He said the Louisiana Tigers were down the road and got on their hands and knees and lapped it up from the ditch like dogs. I've always wished I could rewrite it to include such new material but LSU Press has shown no interest. Thanks again for the posting. Terry
