On the 1830 Washington County, Missouri census, Peter L. Palmer age 20-30, with a wife and 3 sons, is living three households away from David Hanger. David Hanger has a wife and five sons and five daughters. Two of the sons would have been 40-50 years old by 1860-1865. One of David Hanger's sons is known to be Samuel Hanger who marry's one of Hannah Morris Thornton Copelands daughters by her first husband John Thornton. On the 1850 Reynolds County Missouri census Samuel is still single and living in the same household with Hannah. He is listed with the occupation of Merchant. By 1856 Hannah's stepson, William Copeland is operating the store at Logan's Creek. Hannah's sister Hettie is married to Nathanial Baker, father of Issac and George Baker, who JJ Chilton talks about living on Henpeck. Other family members are known to have been involved in trade at other locations in the region. Your Lewis family, who came from Greene County Tennessee, are believed to have traveled to Missouri with the same group that included Benjamin Crow and his son-in-law Curtis Morris. The difficulties associated with confirmation of the Spanish land grants frustrated many of these early settlers and several of the families moved to what is now Arkansas by about 1810-1815. Although many of the grants were later confirmed the original grantee's had already sold out, for pennys on the dollar of what they were worth, and moved onward. I have a little more information about these families if it is still needed.
