Freeman's Missouri Regiment

I recently found some new info concerning my g-g-grandfather, Thomas H. Duty. We knew he had enlisted in White's Misouri Infantry Regt. from Oregon County, Mo. in the fall of 1862, fought at Prairie Grove in Parson's Brigade, and was listed as "deserted" in April 1863. Now it appears that he is also listed as serving in Freeman's Missouri Regiment, which I understand was a cavalry unit. Possibly this represents a later enlistment, of which I understand there were many. Is there anyone who can give me some background on Freeman's Regiment?
