I just received information from NARA with copies of a letter and the service card for James. The service card states Chorn, James, MO STATE GUARD, (Confederate), Capt. & C.S.
The letter is from a "Camp near Little Rock, Ark"
March 18, 1863.
"The letter certifies that Capt. James Chorn in the Missouri State Guard was called into the service of the Confederate States by Maj. Gen. Van Dorn by order at Memphis, Tenn. on the 29th of April 1862 and rendered service from that day and date until the 23rd day of Sept., 1862. This letter was written by M. M. Parsons, Brig. Gen.
This certificate is agreed to as being correct and signed by James Chorn."
He was probably recruiting in Newton Co., MO when he received the wound that led to his death by infection.
James M. Chorn is my great-grandfather.
Eugene Chorn
