It is good to see the information continue on your James Chorn.

I wanted to comment on your remark that James was "probably recruiting in Newton Co., MO when he received the wound that led to his death by infection." There actually was some southern recruiting continuing in MO even when General Price's long-awaiting MO raid was defeated in October 1864 near Kansas City. However, this was mostly wrap-up work by COL Caleb Dorsey in northeast MO and maybe a little elsewhere. When Price's army passed through Newton County that November they were moving too fast to recruit trying to escape the Union pursuit. Besides, there weren't too many southern Newton County men left there to enlist. No, James Chorn received his mortal wound during the long retreat after the defeat of Price's raid on MO. He may have recruited earlier in the war, but I am almost sure he was not engaged in recruiting at that time. Sad to relate, he was retreating. It is nothing to be ashamed of, as it may not have been his idea.
