Re: Miles Vernon
In Response To: Re: Miles Vernon ()

I'm very interested in your research of Miles Vernon, as it appears to have a direct bearing on my search for Thomas Clark Sr. b. ca. 1755. In 1820, Colonel Miles Vernon of Bledsoe Co TN filed a deposition on behalf of Thomas Clark, also of Bledsoe Co TN, for the purpose of filing for his Revolutionary War pension. Among the places of service listed by Thomas Clark, he mentions having fought at the Battle of Stony Point. Thomas Clark also served in the War of 1812. I initially thought that Col. Vernon filed the deposition because Thomas Clark had served under him in the War of 1812, but the fact that Miles Vernon's father Thomas Vernon was at Stony Point gives me pause to wonder if the connection between Thomas Clark and the Vernon family goes back at least to the Revolutionary War.

Additionally, there is a definite connection between my Clarks and Meshack Hicks from Goochland Co VA who died in Dade Co GA. Thomas Clark JR is enumerated on the same 1840 census page as Meshack and John Hicks in Dade Co. Thomas Clark Jr's wife was Elizabeth UPTON--another curious coincidence, given that one of the posters on this topic was a David UPTON.

Given that families tended to migrate together and intermarry of a number of generations, I am wondering if the knowledge you have of the Vernon family might be helpful to me in establishing the identity of Thomas Clark SR of Bledsoe Co TN to determine whether or not he is the ancestor I seek.

Thank you in advance.
