Is there any truth (such as it is) to the story that Captain Charles S. Hills, 10th Kansas Infantry, and General Ewing's ADC during the battle of Pilot Knob, either wrote to General Rosecrans or President Lincoln on behalf of Major Wolf, which helped influence the orders revoking the execution sentence? I find this interesting as Captain Hills acted as Ewing's messenger during the battle and at one point conveyed orders to Major Wilson. These orders were found in Wilson's pocket when the bodies were discovered.
I would be interested if anyone has come across this story.
Thanks,
