Maj. Enoch O. Wolf, Ford's Batt'n.

While re-researching Maj. Wolf for a descendant, a question arose as to testimony given by John Campbell on 11/11/1864 in St. Louis during the Major's stay in prison awaiting execution. Campbell stated Wolf was a desperado in northern Arkansas. In years of researching Wolf I found no other collaboration for this data. A recent find in the OR Series I Vol 22 Part 2 pg. 275-76 is a letter from Campbell to Maj. Gen. Curtis, Rolla, Mo. 5/7/1863. From this it appears Campbell was a Union spy in Arkansas
and tho' Wolf is not mentioned-Campbell's experiences there may have qualified him for the statements made on Major Wolf. Wolf was being held for execution in retaliation for the killing of Maj. James Wilson.
